I have gone through my fair share of “trial and error” with slime and playdough recipes. This is by far my favorite that we have done. Easy, cheap, and smells good!
Materials needed:
cornstarch
baby lotion
food dye
Really the food dye is optional, you can have fun easy play dough out of two ingredients.
Step 1:
Get a bowl! Gather your materials of choice, you can always add glitter or charms or anything to make it a little more “themed.” Having a mixing spoon is helpful as well to get into to a consistency that is closer to something you would want to touch with your hands.
Step 2:
Pour however much cornstarch you desire, then add roughly or exactly half that amount of baby lotion. Any lotion works, so does conditioner if you don’t have lotion on hand. Things that are baby friendly are the best idea. 1 cup cornstarch means 1/2 cup lotion, 4 cups cornstarch means 2 cups lotion, you get it. Mix mix mix!
Step 3:
Play with the consistency if it’s too sticky add cornstarch, if it’s too crumbly add lotion! Once it’s a good consistency separate it into as many different colors you want. Dye each color by dropping the food dye on each chunk and playing with the dough till the color has fully spread.
Step 4:
Play time! While you can just let your child play freely with this, here are a few fun ideas if they start getting unfocused or bored.
Experimenting with texture and prints:
Using leaves, flowers, seashells, legos, or anything else you think of or find around the yard or home, you can help your little explore the way things leave different unique imprints, or just let them have fun decorating and using their imagination.
Counting and colors:
We all know everything can be taken as a chance to practice numbers! Rolling balls and setting them in groups to be counted is fun, or having them sort different colored balls into groups by color!
Cut outs:
Have any fun cookie cutters laying around the house? Kids love cutting out shapes and it can be an easy opportunity to practice shapes! My kids are obsessed with making wiggly worms, rolling the dough out into long rolls and then shaping it like a worm.
